Choosing a suitable PVC pipe diameter for your structure is also a critical aspect. This will depend on the strength you need and how you want your dome to look. Generally ½” PVC pipe is the norm but larger domes would use larger pipe diameters. The primary disadvantage is the triangles that make up the structure.

The rare Topanga Canyon craftsman house was meticulously restored after falling into disrepair. "The kitchen was the biggest challenge, since it was hard to find a flat wall to put anything against," says Jess. "We expanded the mudroom out and took some space from the bathroom to carve out a pantry—where we put the fridge, microwave, and additional shelves. The pantry was key to making the kitchen feel spacious."
Dome-Shaped Homes Look Spectacular
Ekodome kits are optimized for self-assembly, requiring only a handful of people working together in less than a day-time, with minimum set of tools. The steel dome frames, in conjunction with the geodesic design, creates an amazingly strong structure using a minimal amount of material. It was the first practical full-scale example of geodesic geometry used for a domestic purpose—and it quickly captured the public’s attention after Life magazine ran a handsome spread about the house.
DIY Geodesic Dome Kits
The renovation will take several years, in large part because of the structure’s unusual dimensions. “Everything is a little bit uneven.” Installing basic items like a refrigerator or kitchen countertop requires careful planning and custom-crafted designs. “Homes are like breathing organisms—they expand and contract with heat,” says Fouquet of the old wooden beams. Outside hatmaker Nick Fouquet’s sun-dappled home in Topanga Canyon, California, there are fruit trees bursting with figs, plums, lemons, apples, limes, and grapefruits in the winter.

They’re often built out of concrete over an air form, and tend to embody the half sphere shape. There is, however, a great deal of variability amongst materials used to build different sections of a dome house. There are many builders that specialize in building dome homes of various kinds, including geodesic domes.
How to Build a Geodesic Dome Home

Hospitality industry booking sites, such as, Airbnb and Hipcamp have popularized Dome glamping (glamorous camping) as a unique way to experience the outdoors. Now that we’ve explored why building a dome home is starting to make more and more sense to you, you’ll want to weigh in on a few preliminary considerations when building a dome home. Your vision will come alive as your dome is crafted exclusively for your location offering the perfect view, natural light, and privacy. Inside a living dome you will delight in an open, spacious design.
Geodesic Domes: History
Some dome kits will include a cloth, plastic, or fabric covering. The process of attaching the covering will look like unraveling the mesh or canvas cover and tying it to the inside and outside of the struts with ties. Additionally, it is important to note that most dome kits are built atop concrete foundation slabs that you will either have to hire someone to help you pour or pour on your own. The rest, however, you can assemble yourself using your own tools. You can purchase a geodesic dome home kit for as little as $200 for a playpen or small garden, and as much as $15,000 for a full-sized geodesic dome home.
The domeowners and builders we’ve spoken to have been extremely helpful. To complement the structure’s whitewashed, 20-foot-high ceilings, cantilevered stairs were constructed and now connect the living room to the mezzanine sitting room. A midcentury Malm fireplace that Fouquet found at Venice Vintage Paradise is the room’s focal point. A dome home is an odd thing, certainly, and you may never see them lining the grid of regular city streets.
This type of accommodation has some unique aspects which present exciting possibilities. Here, we feature a few basic facts highlighting this contemporary housing system. The most effective waterproofing method with a wooden dome is to shingle the dome.
We also worried, reasonably or not, about finding someone to take on monolithic construction, because it’s so specialized. Dome homes are energy efficient, disaster resistant, and generally awesome inside and out. After living in a geodesic dome, it became a mystery to Chris and me that anyone would want to live in a rectangular house.
Vacation Rental Domes
The chicken wire and screen are tied to the framework with wire ties. Tests should be performed with small squares to achieve the correct consistency of concrete or plastic. Generally, several coats are necessary on the inside and outside. The last step is to saturate concrete or polyester domes with a thin layer of epoxy compound to shed water.
Buying and Building Your Geodesic Home Dome
Even if you choose a cover material which isn’t removeable, the general shape of a dome house makes it a lot more challenging to trap heat within the structure. Geodesic dome homes generally don’t need a foundation which saves time and money in digging a foundation and pouring concrete for a traditional house. And, not having to add reinforced concrete slabs and walls is another factor in their favor. Building estimates put material savings at least 30% less while building a geodesic dome home versus a traditional home.
Eco-Resort Domes
A geodesic dome house is possible but requires commitment and an understanding of the law and the building process. The etymology of geodesic contains “earth” and the “to divide.” Geodesic domes are spherical structures that are composed of many networks of triangles. These triangles create a sturdy framework, reducing the need for inner columns and thus creating more space inside and using less materials than a more common building. Geodesic dome houses were produced by Buckminster Fuller after WWII. The goal of Fuller was to create housing that could use materials to quickly and efficiently create affordable housing. The first commercial dome he designed was in 1953 for the Ford Motor Company at their headquarters.
There are so many options for geodome cover materials, and each comes with its own set of pros and cons. As a forerunner to the science of biomimicry, Buckminster Fuller, inventor of the modern day geodesic dome, observed how the spider’s web mimics Nature’s geometry to withstand the extreme forces of Nature. It's important to remember that home kits typically include only the materials needed to build the shell of the house, and not the interior elements you'll need to move in. Depending on your skills and available time, you may decide to hire a local construction firm to put together and finish your kit dome home.

Not only is a geodesic dome home safe and spacious, it is environmentally friendly. The products used to make geodesic domes are mostly recycled and the structure does not take up a lot of materials to begin with. Living in a geodesic dome house uses far less resources than building wooden houses.
Zip-doors are the perfect option if you want your geodesic dome house to be fully mobile. However, choosing a clear dome house cover definitely sacrifices privacy. I also love the idea of building a cover out of a smooth, maple-colored hardwood.
Not only they save you an upfront fee of the lesser materials used, but they will also use lesser energy later thus, saving you dollars of energy bills. The rigid triangular elements of the dome distribute stress throughout the structure, making geodesic domes able to withstand very heavy loads for their size. More than 300,00 geodesic domes are said to exist and range from homes to radars to shelters. Fuller designed the domes to be affordable and efficient in their architecture. Hypedome’s many different dome house kit styles can be assembled easily in your own yard. As a general rule, dome houses typically cost between $100 and $250 per square foot if you partner with a builder. This price includes finishing the home and labor costs, but does not include buying or preparing your land for the building process, which you should certainly not neglect in your budget.

These points are then connected to divide the original triangle into smaller triangles. For example, if you are dividing each side of a triangle by 3, you will have a 3v dome. If using a kit, the materials required t o construct the geodesic dome should be included which eliminates the added challenges sourcing the right building materials. In 1986, a patent for a dome construction technique involving polystyrene triangles laminated to reinforced concrete on the outside, and wallboard on the inside was awarded to American Ingenuity of Rockledge, Florida. The construction technique allows the domes to be prefabricated in kit form and erected by a homeowner. This method makes the seams into the strongest part of the structure, where the seams and especially the hubs in most wooden-framed domes are the weakest point in the structure.

Nonetheless it’s been preserved as a bit of a Frank Sinatra museum, allowing a rare glimpse into rat pack history. Through a friend of a friend of a friend, I’ve been invited to tag along on this private tour. Sinatra’s Rancho Mirage home was purchased as a business retreat by Canadian billionaire Jimmy Pattison. At the time it was bought, Pattison was said to have paid a mere $4.3 million for this sprawling property.

Above the bed was a print of Sinatra’s first painting, an orange-and-brown abstract (the original hangs in the projection room). Copper sculptures of train engines rimmed the fireplace, and a Denver Express model train stretched along the mantel. “He didn’t want to move out, but he wanted to build a garage and he wasn’t allowed to,” said Teimour Solomon whose parents raised him and his brother in the four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom abode. The home on East 61st Street is "a piece of history," according to its Zillow listing.

Following completion, the house set the standard for postwar Hollywood glamour and embodied the pinnacle of casual living. It not only became home to Sinatra and his family, but also served as a sensational backdrop for celebrity gatherings, passionate romance, violent heartbreak, and the ever-important cocktail hour. From his room, Frank could look out to the pool, monitoring the comings and goings.

In 1960, Senator John F. Kennedy spent two days at Sinatra’s home, sleeping in a guest room of the main house. Sinatra later installed a plaque and the room became Sinatra’s library and the depository for Kennedy memorabilia. During the next two years Sinatra extended his estate, anticipating a future visit from President Kennedy. He installed a heliport, built cottages for the security staff, an additional guesthouse for Kennedy, a tennis court, a new office, and a projection room. Kennedy’s security team didn’t like the association with Sinatra’s suspected mob friends.
However, that same year Sinatra played supporting role in the film From Here to Eternity, a role that won him an Oscar for best supporting actor. A part of the property that changed relatively little was Frank Sinatra’s bedroom (“I Sing the Songs”). Though there was new furniture and a new fireplace, the room’s essence would remain. There was a plain double bed (not king-size) with a headboard covered in orange-and-white fabric.

But with four daughters-in-law to choose from, Gardner appears to have been Sinatra’s mother’s favorite. She’s the one who gifted Dolly a luminous strand of pearls, stayed in touch with her, and remained a topic of conversation even after Gardner and Sinatra split. Mia Farrow, whom he married at 50 when she was 21, was more than a midlife diversion. Recalling their first time, Farrow told Howard Stern that Sinatra invited her to a screening, where they held hands the whole time. Afterward, he was flying back to Palm Springs and wanted her to join him. She couldn’t because she had a cat at home that needed to be fed.

“I made a joke, the word got back to Frank, and the next weekend he had it stocked with all thirty-one flavors,” Melnick says. Since there was no immediate fire protection so far out in the country, two huge red fire extinguishers on wheels stood guard over the property. Electrical generators were installed as protection against the frequent power failures. The property boasts fantastic views of the surrounding desert.

The estate symbolizes Hollywood glamour, designed for Dinah Shore in 1964 by architect Donald Wexler. In 2014, Leonardo DiCaprio purchased the property and made it available as a vacation rental called 432 Hermosa. The estate is a 1.3-acre compound featuring six bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms.
It was then sold to a couple from Texas and it deteriorated somewhat until it was sold again in 1997. Following his romantic scandals, Frank viewed Twin Palms as a place of respite from the Hollywood gossip and as a safe haven where he could unwind. His master bedroom, which inhabits its own wing of the house, provided him with much sought after privacy.
The hilltop home is located in a secluded suburb of Palm Desert and was built by architect Ross Patton. Spread across the 7.5-acre property is a swimming pool, a helipad, a tennis court, a three-bedroom guesthouse, and a one-bedroom pool house. Few 20th-century entertainers—living or dead—can claim as colossal an impact on pop culture as Frank Sinatra. Known as Chairman of the Board or simply The Voice, the New Jersey–born crooner enjoyed a decades-long career, from his rise to prominence in the early 1940s to his final public performances in the mid-1990s. Over the course of his reign, the “My Way” singer racked up an expansive list of accolades, including two Academy Awards and 11 Grammys. With 150 million records sold worldwide, the vocalist and actor had more than enough in the bank to amass a luxe portfolio of real estate holdings from Palm Springs to New York, New York.
He built a house in Palm Springs in 1947 when the town was still small. Needed our jeep to manage the dirt roads, sand dunes, and tumbleweeds,” his older daughter, Nancy, writes in her 1985 book Frank Sinatra, My Father. The house was on Alejo Road in the fashionable north section, with tall picture windows facing a pool shaped like a piano. What would a Frank Sinatra residence be without a some gnashing of teeth along the way? The entertainer described himself as “an 18-karat manic depressive” It true to form, the Twin Palms Frank Sinatra estate was the site of both sparkling Hollywood parties and full-throttled private confrontations. Sinatra and his first wife, Nancy, divorced soon after the home was built.
No matter how cool he was, the desert was sometimes too hot, even for Sinatra. In 1967, he built Villa Maggio in Pinyon Crest, 4,200 feet above the desert floor. Named for his Oscar-winning role in From Here to Eternity, the eight-bedroom midcentury compound is where he hosted both Hollywood and European royalty, including Britain’s Princess Margaret and his former co-star, Princess Grace of Monaco.
Melvyn’s is part of the Ingleside Estate, previously known as Ingleside Inn. It’s named after owner Mel Haber, who came from New York and purchased the property in 1975. Not only did Frank Sinatra dine at the Purple Room, but so did President Eisenhower and Richard Nixon (before he was president). Once, Bing Crosby telephoned for a party of 10, and they had to turn him down.
Barbara inquired about renting the place for an additional month. Finally, in late May, Frank arose one day, breakfasted, showered and shaved, donned a suit and tie, and got into a town car. His staff of 26, informed that he was leaving for good, lined up along both sides of the driveway as a driver eased the car out of the compound and down the street that had long since been named Frank Sinatra Drive.

Private transportation was provided by their friend Frank Sinatra. Martin’s career lasted over seven decades, and he had many hits between the 1930s and 1950s, including “Walk Hand in Hand,” “I Love Paris,” and “Stranger in Paradise”. Funding for the Twin Palms historic site nomination was made possible through donations from PSPF members Joe and Kim Zakowski & Ron and Barbara Marshall. Stewart Williams, the Frank Sinatra Twin Palms Estate was built for Frank Sinatra and his first wife, Nancy. Natural elements paired perfectly with angular constructs of aluminum and steel and these are Williams’s calling cards, and those of the mid-century modern architecture movement of the mid-1900s in Southern California. Nancy’s presence around the house was soon replaced by Sinatra’s long-time lover and second wife Ava Gardner. Sinatra went to parties and dined and danced with Lana Turner and Ava Gardner.

Van Heusen told Sinatra of the beauty of the desert later that day, and Sinatra insisted that they fly there that evening. Sinatra chose the modern design, and the house was to be Williams's first residential commission. Hailing from Hoboken, New Jersey, the only child of Martin and Natalie “Dolly” Sinatra, the legendary crooner epitomized the archetypical swinger.
See below for a look inside the many residences of Ol’ Blue Eyes. The hotel underwent a significant transformation in recent years and was rebranded as Margaritaville Palm Springs. The new design still pays homage to the mid-century modern architecture that made the Riviera famous while infusing it with a relaxed and tropical atmosphere inspired by Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville lifestyle.
One of the other aspects of this property that was absolutely stunning, was Sinatra’s obsession with trains. He was so absolutely captivated with the railroad, that he bought a caboose from one of the railroad companies, and turned it into his own private man cave. At the rear of the car is a personalized barbershop, complete with gleaming white leather barbershop chairs, and vintage tongue-in-groove board on the walls.

He owned houses in Beverly Hills, Malibu, and New York, but Palm Springs, which his pal, composer Jimmy Van Heusen introduced him to, was the place he called home. Like a generation of stars before him, he considered the desert a sanctuary where he could escape the spotlight. Just before Christmas 1947, he moved into Twin Palms on Alejo Road with his wife, Nancy, and their children, Nancy and Frank Jr. Stewart Williams, the estate, with its piano-shaped pool, became a model of midcentury architecture.

In various biographies of Sinatra and his second wife, actress Ava Gardner, the Palm Springs house is generally painted as a den of intemperance and debauchery, a place where alcohol and sex frequently collided to operatic effect. The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation selected Patrick McGrew, an architect, author and authority on California’s architectural history to write the historic site nomination. According to McGrew, Sinatra’s residence meets many of the criteria required for eventual historic site designation.

” The rabbi purportedly responded, “For $1 million, I’ll open the damn grave myself! ” While temple officials refute the story, Sinatra did donate $1 million, and Rubinstein was buried that Monday. The reason usually given for Sinatra’s move a few miles away was because “Palm Springs was getting too crowded.” It wasn’t quite that simple. He and Ava Gardner were calling it quits in 1953 – she filed for divorce in 1954 – and Sinatra’s career was in trouble. The ‘Twin Palms’ home was a regular reminder of his recent personal and professional problems, so he sold the house in April 1953.

While most modernism lovers know about Twin Palms, Sinatra’s famous Palm Springs abode, almost no one knows about this one. Williams’ renderings convinced Sinatra, and he handled over $150,000 for the air-conditioned Desert Modem house. Sinatra demanded that the house be ready for a Christmas party, which left only a few months to design and build the house. Construction proceeded around the clock and at an exorbitant cost, but the house was completed just in time for Sinatra to ring in the New Year. Edward was an actor on stage and screen during Hollywood’s Golden Age.
When the New York writer and columnist Sidney Zion was in residence, he asked to see The Manchurian Candidate. Despite the push toward contemporary styling and Sinatra’s removal of moldings inside the home, original details like hardwood floors, stained glass doors, and fireplace mantels remain. To let in natural light, the Solomon family opened up the rear wall on the first floor, which leads to a slate- and brick-paved backyard. Solomon told the Post that when Sinatra did not show up at the closing, his mother had her lawyer call the entertainer to sing for her as a sign that it was really him, and he obliged. As chef Joshua Weissman welcomes AD into his Austin home in the latest episode of Open Door, he jokes that he doesn’t actually live in a kitchen.
Williams didn’t like the idea and instead designed Sinatra a modern desert-style home, which he liked, and handed over $150,000. The challenge was that he wanted it completed by Christmas to throw a big party. Working around the clock, he had his house to ring in the New Year of 1948. The 3-acre property features a private tennis court, pool, spa, waterfalls, and four boutique-style hotel rooms.
The house would eventually become a 4,500 square foot design with sleek lines, spacious living areas and open concept indicative of mid-century modern style. Walls of gleaming glass were incorporated to bring the desert landscape into the living area of Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms home. This shining gem in Palm Springs, California eventually became a standard for mid-century modern design and has been recognized for seven decades as a star in the desert landscape of Southern California. The house received additional exposure when it was photographed by renowned architectural photographer Julius Shulman.
Among his best-known works is The Carpetbaggers, which was made into a film. In 1985, following a stroke and then a fall, he fractured both hips. He died of heart failure in 1997 at the age of 81 in Palm Springs.
Graceland was the personal home of the king of rock ’n’ roll from 1957 until his death at the age of 42. For Ms. Presley, rock ’n’ roll royalty who died on Thursday in Los Angeles, Graceland was the castle where she spent holidays with her father, and notoriously had full daytime reign of its grand, chandelier-lit rooms while her night owl father slept. The familiar pink Alabama fieldstone wall that fronts the property was erected in 1957, to protect Presley's privacy and discourage trespassing fans. Grace's niece, Ruth Moore, referred to in newspaper reports as a "socialite" and "musical prodigy," and her husband, Thomas Moore, a doctor, built the Colonial Revival (sometimes called "Classical Revival") mansion in 1939. Before Elvis expanded it, the house contained 10,266 square feet.
Lisa Marie Presley Was Rock ’n’ Roll Royalty. Graceland Was Her Castle.
Despite the passing of four decades, remarkably, there’s been no ebb in the steady flow of inquisitive tourists. People still go crazy for the King of Rock and Roll, and he’s especially having a cultural resurgence at the moment thanks to the Baz Luhrmann–directed biopic, called simply Elvis, which is set to hit theaters on June 24. For the film, which features Austin Butler in the titular role, Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley, and Tom Hanks as Elvis’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, Graceland was completely recreated on a set in Queensland, Australia. A fixture of music history, Graceland reports hosting 500,000 visitors a year across its 13-acre grounds and 17,552 square feet. So, Elvis fans, before you plan a trip to the iconic Tennessee property, here are all of the answers to your most pressing questions—including why you should visit, how much it costs, and where you should stay. Plus, dive into the history of the estate, from how much Elvis purchased it for to who owns it today.

Priscilla Presley became the chairwoman and president of Elvis Presley Enterprises, or EPE, stating at that time she would do so until Lisa Marie reached 21 years of age. The enterprise's fortunes soared and eventually the trust grew to be worth over $100 million. The mania for all things Elvis Presley clearly did not die with him, as evidenced by multiple recent biopics and the enduring obsession with his final resting place, Graceland. At the time of his death, the estate and the family shares of Elvis Presley Enterprises were worth $5 million; Vanity Fair reports that today that number is closer to $500 million. The abode at 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard in Memphis is a pilgrimage site, drawing in over 4,000 visitors a day during the height of its tourist season, per Graceland’s accounting.
Lisa Marie Presley started writing a book before she died. Riley Keough completed it
Elvis Presley Enterprises expanded the Elvis Presley experience at Graceland in 2017 by opening the 200,000 square foot entertainment and exhibition complex, Elvis Presley’s Memphis and one hotel called The Guest House of Graceland. Through it all, Graceland — now a national historic landmark — stayed in Presley’s hands. If it gets sold off after her death, Elvis Presley Enterprises, run by managing partner Joel Weinshanker, would be a good bet for the buyer, said Los Angeles-based lawyer Tre Lovell of the Lovell Firm. “There’s always complications anytime a single asset owner deceases and their assets are now going to go to multiple people because they may have different needs, different desires,” said Scott Rahn, founding partner at RMO LLP. With all the focus now on everything Elvis, things could get messy, according to legal experts who specialize in estates of high-net-worth individuals. Her father’s legacy is back in the mainstream (if it ever left) after a hit biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Austin Butler was released by Warner Bros. this summer.
Elvis Presley died aged 42 on August 16, 1977, with his will naming his father Vernon Presley as the executor and trustee. In June 2022, actors Austin Butler and Tom Hanks visited the mansion and were interviewed virtually by the Good Morning America news program from the Jungle Room to talk about their biographical film Elvis. According to Elvis Presley's Enterprises, staff at Graceland informally kept a list of celebrities who had visited in the first years following Elvis's death.

Ahead of her burial, the grounds of the superstar's Memphis home will be opened for a public memorial service honoring the singer-songwriter and mom of four, a representative for her eldest daughter Riley Keough confirmed to E! News, noting that she, 14-year-old sisters Harper and Finley Lockwood and Lisa Marie's mom Priscilla Presley "are grateful for the support, well-wishes and outpouring of love honoring their beloved Lisa Marie." Riley Keough, the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley, will be the sole trustee for her late mother's estate, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY. In a court ruling from Friday, August 4, a Los Angeles judge named Keough the sole trustee of her mother Lisa Marie Presley's estate, which includes the iconic Memphis property.
Suicide, tragedy, addiction: Lisa Marie Presley endured the darkest moments but kept the flame of Elvis burning bright
Lisa Marie took complete ownership of the home when she turned 25 in February 1993. Graceland will also serve as the location for Lisa Marie's final resting place, a rep for Riley confirmed to E! She will be buried alongside her father and her son, Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide in 2020 at age 27. Elvis Presley was just 22 years old when he bought his Graceland home in Memphis, Tenn., on March, 25, 1957. The singer paid $102,500 for the property, which already had its famous moniker.

Anne Heche’s ‘insolvent’ estate cannot settle debts, actor’s son claims in legal docs
Although the rock star was a cash cow while alive, his lavish spending habits and shortsighted deal-making left the family in dire straits once he was gone. But with the founding of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Priscilla helped turn the mansion into a tourist attraction. The ambitious centerpiece of an attempt to expand the Elvis experience beyond the mansion, Elvis Presley’s Memphis opened on March 2, 2017. In addition to rock-and-rollers, Graceland attracted many animals.
Lisa Marie Presley’s final resting place will be at Graceland by her late son’s side
Graceland was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1991, becoming the first site recognized for significance related to rock music. It was declared a National Historic Landmark on March 27, 2006, also a first for such a site. In exchange for Priscilla's resignation as a trustee, Keough will pay Priscilla a lump sum and reimbursement of legal fees up to $400,000.
She was the only daughter of the late music legend Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley. In 2006, Graceland was declared a National Historic Landmark and now attracts 650,000 visitors annually. The mansion is so famous that’s even inspired a wedding chapel in Las Vegas.
After Elvis Presley's death in 1977, Vernon Presley served as executor of his estate. Upon his death in 1979, he chose Priscilla to serve as the estate executor for Elvis's only child, Lisa Marie, who was only 11. Graceland itself cost $500,000 a year in upkeep, and expenses had dwindled Elvis's and Priscilla's daughter Lisa Marie's inheritance to only $1 million. Taxes were due on the property; those and other expenses due came to over $500,000. Faced with having to sell Graceland, Priscilla examined other famous houses/museums, and hired a CEO, Jack Soden, to turn Graceland into a moneymaker. Priscilla's gamble paid off; after only a month of opening Graceland's doors the estate made back all the money it had invested.
On Nov. 24, 1976, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis' contemporary and onetime rock-and-roll rival, was arrested at about 3 a.m. Outside Graceland, after he drove up to the gates in his Lincoln Continental Mark IV and demanded to see Elvis, while "screaming and yelling and waving a Derringer in the air" (according to the testimony of a guard at the gates, as quoted in The Commercial Appeal). Police confirmed that the Killer's "two-shot .38 caliber Derringer" was loaded (as, apparently, was Lewis).
Even as she stared down financial ruin, she held onto the estate. The Guest House at Graceland began booking room reservations for individual travelers, groups and corporate clients in March 2016. The hotel has been cited by numerous publications as one of the most exciting hotel opening worldwide in 2016. Elvis Presley outside the grounds of his Graceland estate circa 1957.
According to VF, they quartered at the property’s official hotel, and after the tourists left for the day, they would descend upon the main grounds to drive golf carts and hang out. Keough also revealed, “There were a few times that we slept [at Graceland],” though she thought twice about making that detail public (“…but I don’t know if I should say that”), as the second floor of the property is off-limits. Family members continued to live at Graceland after Elvis' death, including Vernon Presley, who died in 1979, and Minnie Mae Presley, who died in 1980. During this time, the Graceland kitchen and bedroom frequented by Delta remained off-limits to tourists; the rooms were added to the tour after her death. In May 2023, Riley and Priscilla reached a settlement over that dispute.
And if you're curious about Elvis's other former homes, like his possibly haunted Hollywood apartment or his iconic Palm Springs honeymoon house, we have you covered there too. The mansion remains not only a tourist attraction, but a staple in pop culture. In June 2022, actors Austin Butler and Tom Hanks visited the mansion and were interviewed virtually for “Good Morning America” to talk about their biographical film “Elvis.” The film featured a recreation of the iconic estate. Sofia Coppola’s film “Priscilla” documenting the life of Priscilla Presley, will also feature scenes at a recreation of Graceland, showcasing her life at the mansion with Elvis.
With inflation, that price tag is the equivalent of more than $1 million today. The same year, the King of Rock 'n' Roll skyrocketed to superstardom, making historic network television appearances, giving record-breaking live performances, and receiving armloads of gold records. The last member of the Presley family to occupy Graceland mansion was Elvis’ aunt Delta, who died in 1993.
Elvis’s staff was retained after his death
Born into the spotlight, Presley split her youth between Graceland and Los Angeles after her parents — Elvis and Priscilla Presley — divorced. According to the terms of her father’s will, Lisa Marie became the sole inheritor of Graceland and the rest of the “Hound Dog” singer’s estate, but her inheritance was held in a trust until she turned 25. Presley is survived by her three daughters, actor Riley Keough and twins Harper and Finley Lockwood, from two different ex-husbands. Her stake in the estate, though diminished after past deals, is still sizable; in addition to Graceland, she retained ownership of her father’s costumes, cars, awards and other possessions, according to the mansion’s website. From its 1982 public opening through May 2022, Graceland has attracted just under 23 million visitors, according to figures supplied by Graceland.

Following Elvis' death in 1977 at the age of 42 and his father Vernon Presley's passing in 1982, Priscilla made a similar decision to open Graceland to the public, turning the property into a destination for fans of the King of Rock 'N' Roll. The 14-acre grounds serve as the final resting place for Elvis, who died of a heart attack at his beloved home, his parents Vernon and Gladys Presley, and Lisa Marie's son Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide in 2020 at age 27. Keough and her family would visit Graceland over Thanksgiving, but they did not stay at the legendary mansion.
How Riley Keough Became the Sole Owner of Graceland
The Guesthouse at Graceland, a new 450-room hotel near Elvis’ famous Tennessee estate began welcoming visitors last October. PEOPLE spoke with Priscilla Presley about the new property, which she oversaw and helped design. When Elvis Presley died in 1977, Lisa Marie Presley, his only child, inherited Graceland — an eight-bedroom, eight-bath Colonial revival house in Memphis that became one of the most iconic pieces of real estate in American music history. Graceland’s new, world-class, 450-room resort, The Guest House at Graceland, welcomed its first guests today when Priscilla Presley joined Graceland executives to cut the “blue suede ribbon” to signify the official opening for the $92 million luxury property.
Memphis saw a huge increase in tourism when Graceland opened to the public in 1982. Not only did the attraction draw crowds from all across the country, but the mansion and surrounding grounds have actually attracted visitors from nearly every country in the world. The land was in the Toof family for generations and was named after one of the family’s relatives, Grace. In 1939, Grace’s niece, Ruth Brown Moore, and her husband Dr. Thomas Moore, built the mansion, which became well known to Memphis locals.
The mansion has two chimneys; one on the north side's exterior wall, the second rising through the south side's roof ridge. The central block's front and side facades are veneered with tan Tishomingo limestone from Mississippi and its rear wall is stuccoed, as are the one-story wings. The front facade fenestration on the first floor includes 9x9 double-hung windows set in arched openings with wooden panels above, and 6x6 double-hung windows on the second floor. Sauer also installed a kidney shaped swimming pool and a racquetball court, which is reminiscent of an old country club, furnished in dark leather and a functional bar. There is a sunken sitting area with the ever-present stereo system found throughout Graceland, as well as the dark brown upright piano upon which Elvis played for what were to be his last songs, Willie Nelson's "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and "Unchained Melody".
Court documents, which the family attempted to keep private, revealed that Riley will be the sole trustee of her late mother's estate and the subtrusts of her sisters. The settlement appears to include a $1 million payment to Priscella, and Riley agreed to cover up to $400,000 of Priscella's legal fees related to the petition, The New York Times reported. Priscilla will act as a "special advisor" to the trust "for which she would be paid an undisclosed annual amount for 10 years, or until her death, whichever came first," according to the outlet. She will also be the trustee of the subtrust of her son, Navarone Garibaldi, who is Lisa Marie's half-brother.
She has been instrumental in keeping the estate up and running as a tourist destination and her ex one of the highest-earning deceased celebrities of all time. In addition to five staircases and three fireplaces, the home also has a billIards room and a lair that Presley referred to as "The Den". Complete with a waterfall, wooden walls, a grass shag carpet and plastic foliage, fans began calling it "the Jungle Room" when Graceland was opened to public visitors in 1982.
Lisa Marie, who inherited her father Elvis’ property when he died in 1977, died from a small bowel obstruction in January. As the question of who was to be Graceland’s new custodian played out in the courts, media reports swirled, speculating about potential succession drama between Keough and grandmother Priscilla Presley. The actor waved off rumors of familial discord, telling VF she doesn’t know why her grandmother wouldn’t be buried at Graceland.

Today, it's now expanded to 17,552 square feet on 13.8 acres of land. Sadly, the legend died of a heart attack at Graceland on Aug. 16, 1977, when he was only 42. Lisa Marie's trust included ownership of Graceland and a 15% stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises, People reports.
In August, a Los Angeles judge approved Riley Keough as the sole heir of her late mother’s estate, also making her the owner of Graceland. The Daisy Jones and the Six actress' grandfather Elvis Presley purchased the iconic home in 1957 for $100,000 at age 22, and her grandmother Priscilla moved into the iconic property in 1963 at age 18. She married Elvis four years later, after meeting when she was 14 and he was 24.
While these additions make the bounce house heavy, they also create a pretty generous weight limit of 300 pounds. The Magic Castle boasts stately turrets on all four corners, separated by mesh walls to keep your kiddos inside. This bounce house comes with a 6-foot-long fill tube and a blower that includes a GFCI plug. The maximum total weight is 400 pounds, making it a great pick for birthday parties for preschoolers and older kids.
Footer
Its generous size (84 x 84 inches) means it can easily accommodate kids ranging in age from 3 to 8 years old, with a maximum of three kids inside at any time. Since bounce houses are inflated, there is a possibility that inner tubes will pop when kids are bouncing, potentially causing harm. For that reason, look for bounce houses that advertise double or quadruple stitching. This basically means the seams have been reinforced and are that much stronger. Gone are the days when you needed to reserve a bounce house for a birthday party. Instead, snag yourself this Pirate Bay Inflatable Water Park and watch as happy kids frolic for hours.

When combined with the hook-and-loop closures on the mesh doors, the Bounceland is designed to keep kiddos from falling out of the bouncy. As with other bounce houses, inflation takes less than one minute with the included blower. As a bonus, the Bounceland comes with an extra-long fill tube that keeps the blower a decent distance from the bounce house.
Costway Inflatable Bounce House Sweet Candy Bouncy Castle Bounce House with Water Slide and 480-Watt Blower
The smaller size means it won’t work as well for group events like birthday parties, but it could be a great indoor/outdoor option through the seasons. The Step4Fun does come with a 350w blower, and inflation time is three minutes. Inflation takes a couple of minutes with the included 550w waterproof blower, and the maximum structure weight is 297 pounds.
In addition to the included ultralight blower, the Magic Castle comes with a small slide. It’s roughly 2 feet long, so it’s not the most engaging for older children, but toddlers will still enjoy the fun escape. Most bounce houses come with stakes to pin down the corners to prevent the structure from flying away. Since you cannot do that inside, be sure to anchor it down with something heavy like sandbags. Finally, be sure to look at the suggested capacity for the number of children. While it may seem like no big deal to increase those numbers for the sake of fun, they exist for the safety of your kids.
Since the maximum weight is 200 pounds, four children can run laps on the slide while taking turns on the climbing wall. To select the best bounce houses for kids, we spoke to a pediatric physical therapist and a developmental interventionist. We also researched safety concerns and considered durability, size, cost, and recommended age. Our list includes picks for all age groups and interests, from bounce houses with water slides and obstacle courses to smaller indoor options. There is a wide variety of inflatable bounce houses on the market, including options for indoor and outdoor use, along with various sizes and shapes built to engage children of all ages.

Not only does it include a blower, but the bounce house itself is constructed with commercial-grade sewing and buffer strips so you never have to worry about popped or separated tubes. Most bounce houses are brightly colored, looking more like circus tents than living room showpieces. Created by two moms, this indoor bounce house boasts a posh design with muted colors that look surprisingly decent in any home.
Yard Bounce House with Inflatable Slide
A generous slide runs the length of one side, acting as a fun ramp for kids to exit or enter the bounce house. While the Jump ‘n Slide doesn’t come with any water features, creative parents can place a small inflatable pool at the bottom of the slide for even more fun on hot days. While bouncing is inherently a healthy activity for children, there are some safety considerations to take into account.
Step4Fun Inflatable Bounce House with Ball Pit
Racing around an inflatable bounce house may be a child’s dream occupation, and the Bounceland Obstacle Course is up to the task. Not only does it include side-by-side tunnels, but kids will also battle their way through vertical obstacles, a climbing wall, and side-by-side slides. Three mesh walls surround the large bouncing platform, while a wide slide runs to the ground on the fourth side. There aren’t any other bonus features or play options with the Jump ‘n Slide, but it’s a great bounce house to get the wiggles out.
It comes with a flow-through blower, and inflation time is less than two minutes. While there aren’t a lot of extra features on this bounce house, it does come with a small slide. However, the top-notch construction uses commercial-impact surfaces and quadruple-stitched seams, so durability is almost guaranteed. That’s the secret behind the Blast Zone Big ‘Ol Bouncer, a no-thrill bounce house with ample space to jump around. With one of the largest jumping platforms on this list, the Big ‘Ol Bouncer has plenty of space for kids at a birthday party or neighborhood block party. Unlike other bounce houses constructed with vinyl or straight polyester, the SMOL house uses an Oxford polyester blend, a type of polyester-and-cotton mixture.
Whether you’re throwing a birthday party for your little ones or want to organize a fun summer activity for them, these inflatables are sure to give them a pleasant surprise. First, you need to consider how many kids will be using it, how old they are and how much space will be required. Make sure there is enough height clearance with no tree branches or wires hanging. You can go for a basic bouncer or go for the ones that have slides or water slides with attached tiny pools.
According to Katie Sealer, a Colorado-based developmental interventionist, it’s important to ensure your kiddo has enough core strength to adequately support their body while bouncing. She also suggests that parents group similarly aged children together so that bigger kids don’t accidentally harm younger children. The number of children playing on the bounce house at a time should also be limited to avoid collisions and accidents. The Little Tikes comes with a heavy-duty blower that inflates the bounce house in less than 30 seconds. The maximum weight is 160 pounds, which is on the lighter side, but a pair of toddlers can still have a party.
Costzon suggests no more than three kids inside, each weighing less than 99 pounds. The bouncer has mesh walls to keep kids inside and a GFCI outlet, a modern outlet that prevents electrical shock. It also comes with its own storage bag and bouncer stakes to secure the corners. Most bounce houses are constructed with synthetic materials such as PVC, nylon, or polyester.

Mr. Brady and his three sons lived at 4222 Clinton Way, but the name of the town/city was never specified on the show. And while we don’t know the final sale price quite yet (nor do we know who the lucky buyer might be), we’ll make sure to update you as soon as the sale goes through and more information becomes available. As for the kitchen where the Bradys shared their breakfast and their woes every morning before skewl, it stands proud in all of its sage green and tangerine orange glory, with complimenting floral glassware and a fully stocked fridge. Firstly, I can’t stress enough the painstaking detail that went into bringing the original Brady Bunch house back to life in just 307 days. Everything has been recreated down to the finest detail and I mean the absolute finest. "Mid-century is such a massive part of what we do and how we design, so this is our main influence," she told People.
Re-designing 11222 Dilling Street
The cast, alongside HGTV stars, helped gut the house while the crew painstakingly reproduced the set’s rooms and 1970s decor — right down to cabinet hardware. The house’s fictional address is 4222 Clinton Way, but the real-life house used for exterior shots of The Brady Bunch home is located at Dilling St, Studio City in California. The grown-up Brady Bunch kids and HGTV’s top designers have completed a massive renovation of the home seen in the ABC sitcom’s opening shots — just in time for the 1969–74 TV classic’s 50th anniversary. “Reportedly it is the 2nd most photographed home in the USA after the White House. Own a piece of pop culture history and pay homage to American sitcom television," the listing added. The first episode of the TV limited series also focused on the heart of the home—living room, dining room, and the staircase.

All of the action that takes place inside the house and in the garden was recorded on stage five at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
